Camp Reflection

Arriving:
This week our class went on camp to Anaura Bay. We were going to go last week but because of cyclone Pam it was postponed. We drove for about 1 hour except Sarah,Riccarda, Charlotte U and camryn went all the way up to Tokomaru Bay because they missed the turn off. But when the other groups arrived at Anaura Bay motor camp about a quarter of the kids jumped out of their cars and started to run around shouting and well you get the point. After they were done we started to put up the persian blue coloured school tents which took about half an hour and sloths group had to wait for a parent after that the students through their bags in and went to play.

The activities:
At Camp we did loads of really fun activities such as:
  • A bush hike up a hill ( called the quest )
  • Sea kayaking
  • Surfing
  • Speed boating over giant waves
  • Watching the sunrise ( at 5 in the morning! )
  • Rafting
We also had to set up our tents and bring them down as well but that was also exciting and a brand new experience for a couple of kids who had never put up a tent before or even slept in one in that case.  When we did the raft it didn't get very far because the waves were quite huge for a little raft that was supposed to fit our whole class on it But it was still fun in the end.

The Food :)
On camp we had amazing food like burgers, american hot dogs and home baking plus lots and lots of fruit. At the end of camp we still had loads of food left so we bought it all back to school and on friday had it for morning tea and lunch. we managed to finish off all the home baking, and the bread, cheese and onion in toasties.but one of the bad things about the food was that as much as we loved it so did the dogs and so every meal someone would feed the dogs even though it was against the rules otherwise the dogs would just think that we are going to give them more and we are not.

Camp was amazing this year and we are all definitely looking forward to action week if camp was good then action week will be a blast!

Little bit of Craziness!

There have been a considerable amount of complex conversations around 'future learning' in our classroom this week. We are trying to think about how we can 'Hack' school into something that is exciting, amazing, and meaningful!

We discussed the idea of project based learning to make learning relevant to all kids... the problem seems to be that not everybody knows what they are into. How do we find out what we like/love about life? Hopefully some of the experiences on camp can inspire some of our Akonga (students) to find out what truly inspires, and motivates them. Could it be surfing? Could it be Snorkeling? Could it be trying new experiences?

Work is progressing around school to upgrade wifi... YAY! It would be good to not have noises, strange smells, and interesting equipment lying around... BUT it's good to see that we are still curious about the world around us... or in our case... underneath our feet!

BRING ON CAMP! .... NOT CYCLONE!

Touch Rugby

The Journey so far...

This is our first official classroom 'group' photo after a lunchtime game of touch rugby. We are part of a competition that helps us to learn about cooperation, participation, and determination. On each student's individual blog, they were asked to reflect on our lunchtime competition as part of their 'Week 4 Reflection'. Please read an comment if you have a chance:)

Our goals for lunchtime touch rugby are:

1. TO HAVE FUN :) ... and to make sure everybody else is having fun!
2. To give a new activity a go
3. To cooperate and participate as a classroom to get to know each other
4. ...to to be too serious when it comes to competition... ;)
